Adding a Network Printer – Mac

Step 1. From the Apple Menu, choose system preferences -> Print and Fax (or Print & Scan)

Step 2. Underneath the list of available printers already on your Mac, click on the plus sign to add another printer.

Step 3. On the top menu bar of this next window, make sure that “IP” is selected, and that under protocol is says “Line Printer Daemon, LPD”.

On the “Address” line type in the IP address of the printer you wish to add:

  • 10.10.15.10 – Purchase Order Printer in Purchasing Dept. (PO forms ONLY)
  • 10.10.15.12 – Library Printer
  • 10.10.15.16 – Front Office B&W Printer
  • 10.10.15.18 – Computer Lab Printer

After several seconds a message should appear under the IP address you just added saying that it is a “valid and complete address” and the proper driver for the printer should appear next to the “Print Using” line.

At this point is a good idea to give the printer an intuitive name that you will be able to recognize later.

Click ADD.

Step 4. Check the box that says “Duplex Unit” – this enables 2-sided printing. Choose Continue.

Step 5. The printer you added will show up in your list of available printers.

If you would like to edit or view the print settings, from the main “Print & Fax” window, highlight the printer and choose “Options & Supplies” > General tab, here you can edit the printer name, location and view the IP address.

At this window you can use the minus button to remove a printer, and edit the default printer from the “Default Printer” pick list.

Step 6. To set up 2-sided printing (Library, Front Office B&W, Computer Lab Printers)

After choosing File > Print from within your application, choose the appropriate printer from the printer pick-list. From the third pick-list (it will say “Copies & Pages”) choose “Layout”. Toward the bottom of the window, where is says “Two-Sided: OFF”, from the pick-list choose” long-edge binding”, then PRINT to send your 2-sided print job to the printer.

NOTE: If you do not see the layout/two-sided option, go back to system preferences > Print & Fax, choose the printer, then select “Options and Supplies”, choose “Driver” and make sure that the driver is correct. It should be “HP LaserJet 4200 Series” for the Library and Front Office printers,”HP LaserJet 4010 Series” for the Computer Lab printer. Make sure that “Duplex Unit” is checked.

Adding the PO Printer to a Mac

These instructions are for a Mac running OSX (various), some screens may look slightly different on your mac but the fundamental concepts are consistent across all versions of Mac OSX.

Note: The PO printer is for purchase orders only. Do not send any other type of print job to this printer.

Step 1. From the Apple Menu, choose system preferences -> Print and Fax (or Print & Scan)

Step 2. Underneath the list of available printers already on your Mac, click on the plus sign to add another printer.

Step 3. On the top menu bar of this window, left, choose “Default”. From the list of printers choose the printer “HP LaserJet P2035n”, and select ADD.

Step 4. It is a good idea to give the printer a recognizable name that you’ll remember later.

Return to System Preferences > Printers & Faxes or (Print & Scan), select the printer you just added. Choose “Options & Supplies” > General tab, here you can edit the printer name, change it to “PO Printer”.
